One-tap styles that survive strict filters

Each of these adds a single combining mark per letter instead of a stack. They stay readable, they cost far fewer characters, and they rarely get stripped by a bio field.

The honest answer: this is not a font

Almost everyone searching for a glitch font generator wants what this page does. It is still worth being straight about the mechanism, because knowing it saves you from several hours of confusion later.

A font changes how characters are drawn. Swap Arial for Courier and the letters look different, but the letter a is still the letter a underneath, and nobody else sees your change unless they have the same font.

This tool does the opposite. It leaves the typeface alone and changes the characters, adding Unicode combining marks that already exist on every device made in the last twenty years. The distortion is baked into the text itself.

That distinction is the entire reason this approach is useful. A real font file cannot be pasted into an Instagram bio. This can.

Quick test

Copy the output above and paste it into a note on your phone. If it still looks glitched, it was never a font. A font would have reverted to plain text the moment it left this page.

What you get by not using a font file

  • It travels. Paste into Discord, Instagram, TikTok, X, Notion or a text message and the effect goes with it.
  • Nothing to install. No download, no font manager, no admin rights on a school or work laptop.
  • No licensing. Unicode characters are not copyrightable, so commercial use is fine and no attribution is needed.
  • It works on mobile. Installing fonts on a phone is painful. Pasting text is not.

What you give up

Two things, and they are worth knowing before you commit.

Rendering varies. Every operating system stacks combining marks with its own engine. iOS packs them tightly, Android spreads them out, Windows sits in between. At low intensity the difference is invisible. At high intensity the same string can look noticeably different on two phones.

Coverage varies. If a font lacks a glyph for a particular mark, the system draws an empty box instead. Most system fonts cover the common marks well, but not all of them cover all 112. Lowering the intensity fixes this in practice, because the generator reaches for the rare marks less often.

When you actually do want a real glitch font

If you are designing a poster, a logo, a thumbnail or anything where you control the rendering, a proper display typeface will beat this every time. Distressed, chromatic-aberration and VHS-style faces are built for that job, and you can kern them, scale them and color them freely.

Use a font file when the output is an image. Use this page when the output is text that has to survive being copied.

Using it in Canva, Figma and Photoshop

All three work the same way: generate above, copy, then paste into a text layer. A few notes from actually doing it:

  • If marks come out as boxes, change the layer font. Arial, Helvetica, Segoe UI and the Noto Sans family have the widest coverage of these characters.
  • Increase the line spacing before you paste. Tall stacks will collide with the line above at default leading.
  • Canva sometimes normalizes pasted text on mobile. Pasting on desktop is more reliable.
  • Once you are happy, rasterize or outline the layer. That locks the appearance in so it cannot shift if the file is opened on a machine with different fonts.

Glitch font questions

Is glitch text an actual font?

No, and that is the single most useful thing to know here. Nothing is installed and nothing is downloaded. The generator swaps your text for Unicode characters that already exist on every device, which is why the effect survives a copy and paste into an app that has never heard of this site.

Then why does everyone call it a glitch font generator?

Because that is what it looks like it does. A font changes how characters are drawn without changing the characters. This changes the characters without touching the font. The result is close enough that the wrong name stuck.

What if I need a real glitch font file?

Then you want a display typeface with a distressed or chromatic design, installed in a design tool like Figma, Photoshop or Canva. That is a different job from this page. Real font files do not survive copy and paste into Instagram, which is usually why people end up here instead.

Can I use this in Photoshop or Canva?

Yes. Paste the generated text into a text layer and it renders, provided the font you have selected includes the combining marks. Most system fonts do. If marks come out as empty boxes, switch to Arial, Segoe UI, Helvetica or Noto Sans and try again.

Why do some marks show as boxes or question marks?

The font in use has no glyph for that character, so the system draws a placeholder. It is a display problem, not a data problem: the text is still correct and will render properly for someone with a more complete font. Lowering the intensity usually clears it.
